Animals have always had mixed luck, with some being blessed with an amazing family and others suffering years of abuse at the hands of a barbaric human being. For many decades now, these voiceless beasts have been tortured by ringmasters, killed by poachers, hunted down by men who didn’t know what to do in their leisure time, and beaten up mercilessly by the same hand that should have fed them. They say a dog is man’s best friend. Ironically, dogs are the ones who bear the brunt of frustrated individuals the most. Many families take in puppies either because they are cute, or because they will make a good guard dog. However, they forget their own duties as a pet parent, ending up neglecting or mistreating their fur babies. Roo is one such Golden Retriever, who had a traumatic past but was eventually rescued by a group of benevolent people. She was assigned a foster parent, who unlike her previous owners took good care of her. The first time Roo was taken to the pet store by her foster father so she could pick her own toy, she browsed through each and every aisle, making sure she made no error of judgment in choosing what she wanted. Just as we inspect every item we see at a departmental store, our rescued Golden Retriever did the same, scouring each department for that single special gift. She was even more elated because for the first time in her life a human had loved her so much as to let her choose for herself.
Roo, our rescued baby, checked out the lint rollers, toy bones, interactive doggie games, Kong Balls, pet food and shampoos before she could zero in on that one single thing that she dearly wanted. Finally the gorgeous girl went on ahead and selected a certain stuffed toy that she took a special fancy to. The video just shows how a bit of love can transform even the most broken of animals and teach them to trust humans once again. As Joaquin Phoenix says, “It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal”, it is our duty as the most intelligent beings on earth to show some humanity and compassion, especially towards those animal lives we take responsibility for.
